Summer Tour - Day 8
Summer Tour 2013 - Amanda Final Thoughts

Nestled back in our home in North Vancouver I will give a little summary from the perspective of Amanda of our recent trip.

At home enjoying our view.

Over the course of 9 days we rode 583 kilometers.  That’s an average of about 72 kilometers per day when you take into account our rest day.  I think that distance is pretty respectable.  We were trying to not be in a rush and did have some flexibility in terms of our destinations and end date of our trip.  In previous tours we typically averaged about 100 kilometers a day so it’s a bit less but mostly by design.

I found a cool website that talked about some of the roads we road on.  The one that stood out for me the most was the ride out of Pemberton toward Lillooet.  The road is considered a category 1 climb with the incline as high as 15% grade and the overall average over the course of the climb is 7.5%.  It is categorized as one of the hardest climbs in British Columbia.  The only other road it lists as having a high grade of 15% is sections of the Othello Hill near the Coquihalla Summit.  Go Team Prenty!

You can see the Cayoosh climb listed here along with a lot of the other hard climbs in BC.

A view of the climb of our first few days from North Vancouver to Lillooet.

This was our first go and traveling on a tight budget of $30 per day for both of us.  That includes everything; food, accommodations and anything that comes up like on this trip, sunscreen.  Over nine days our budget was $270 ($30 x 9) and we spend $238.35.  We achieved our budget goals but likely could have used a bit more food.

I’m guilty of really enjoying statistics to analyze a plan so below you have a summary of overall costs, speeds and distances.
