After a great couple of days kicking around Cuba’s capital, it was nice to retreat to the “quiet” beaches of Playa Estes, about 30km east of Havana. We tried to arrange with Gabriel, the Casa Particular host we stayed with the first time in Guanabo, for an apartment, but he was full. However, when we arrived in town, he had already arranged a nearby Casa, at our preferred price of $20CUC, and we ended up having pretty much an entire house to ourself. It was a little bit of a further walk to the beach than before, which meant it was 200m to the water, instead of 100m.
For three days, we did nothing but read books, swim, cook/eat, and relax. Guanabo I think is my favourite place in Cuba; close enough to Havana if we want to visit, great beach, lots of cheap food options for eating/drinking, or in our case we shopped and cooked at the Casa.
I think I’m pretty much done with sight-seeing here, and I’m just on autopilot until we get back to Canada. I’m not certain that this is a negative thing though. We’re in this for the long-haul, and after waking up pretty much every day for the last two months with my mind set on reaching the next destination, a little relaxing is just what the doctor ordered.
