A ho-hum day on the bikes as the road was pretty straight, and so we spent time and energy thinking and planning other dreams.

What happened…

Andrew writes: So the plan was….There is always a plan see. I make plans while I’m riding, I make them when I’m not riding, I make them in the morning, change them in the afternoon and perfect them at night, just before bed time. So the plan was to wake up this morning and go for a boogie board session and then maybe ride bikes. The right side of my body was a little too stiff for surf sports, and we ended up repeating the lazy start from yesterday. I made breakfast, and Amanda was upstairs on her computer. Then I sort of decided that I wanted to ride for a few hours, so we packed up and set off around 1100hrs. The bright sun of this morning clouded over and made for great cycling weather as the temperature stayed “cool”, as in maybe 32C, and the rain held off. Thus, it seemed like in no time at all we had cycled 70km, at an amazing (for us) 16.8km/h an hour for four hours..woohoo! I felt a little uneasy about pushing our luck to find a hotel past Zacatucola and so we pulled into an auto hotel / love motel just after 1630 and called it a day.

We watched the movie “Everest” tonight, based on the book by John Krakauer called, “Into Thin Air”. There are aspects of wonder, inspiration, awe, curiosity, a whole flurry of feelings that come with watching a movie like that. I really would like to see if we can make it to base camp. There are other mountains I wouldn’t mind taking a crack at such as Kilimanjaro. I think we’ll continue to hike higher and higher when we get into the Andes and see if we enjoy that sort of time off of the bikes. Actually, I’ve thought for years that I would love to summit K-2 in Nepal. It’s just a dream really, but I’m living proof that dreams can come true – who knows, maybe one day eh?
