Whistler Bike Park Opens!
B-Team Triple Nipple 6

Well it’s official.  We’ve sold our home as of May 31, 2013.  This was the biggest restriction we’ve had through our entire planning.  In terms of commitments, we’re lucky.  We have an understanding family that supports us in our dreams, the financial planning goals and hopes that keep us going.  If we decided to leave tomorrow the only thing holding us back was our mortgage.

Our initial plan was to leave in 2019 unless we sold our home.  And here we are – we sold it!  So does that mean we’re leaving now?  It doesn’t mean we’re leaving just yet because we still need to save some money.  But it does give us more flexibility to leave whenever we decide to.

Now that we’ve sold it I have such mixed emotions.  When we first moved into our place I hated it.  I couldn’t wait to leave.  And now that we’re leaving I’m thinking what have I done!  I had a beautiful 1200 square foot home with south facing floor to ceiling windows overlooking the City of Vancouver and the Burrard Inlet.  The trains and ships blaring their horns has annoyed me for years, but now I’m wondering – what did I do!  And so I must remind myself, why am I doing this.

Andrew and I decided a couple of years ago that we were going to retire by the time he turns 40.  We are going to sell everything we own except for two bicycles and some essentials to live.  We are going to ride our bikes around this planet and enjoy people, scenery and different cultures.   We’ve watched too many people work hard their whole lives saving for retirement and not make it there.
We will travel the world for about 10 years and come back and figure out the rest then.  Okay now that I’ve typed it I remember.  The beautiful home is only beautiful because I’m sharing it with my lover and best friend.

This is the right choice.  This is the next step in our adventure.

So farewell wonderful roof over my head and hello world!

Today we begin a new chapter in our lives.

Amanda
